The Relaxing Sounds of KirtanaSome people are simply born to sing, as if their fate had already been written in stone. Such is the case with Kirtana, an artist that has been playing acoustic guitar since the tender age of eleven. Growing up on the Atlantic coast of Maine, Kirtana enjoyed an early connection with water and the natural surroundings. Later in life, she moved to the opposite coast on the Pacific in a coastal Californian town. There, she has used her early experiences to connect with the natural beauty and energy that surrounds the region and let that influence find its way into her songs.In addition to the surroundings that obviously play a role in the harmony of her musical sound, she also credits a large amount of influence to the teaching she received from Gangaji. While the music of Kirtana is often distributed bearing the New Age music label, the artist prefers a different term for the style of music that she plays. She believes that her music is about the celebration of divine love and is intended to show the truth of each human being. In her words, the proposed genre for these types of works should be 'Contemporary Sacred' or 'Music for Awakening.'
