The Composer Tom BarabasAs a true world traveller, Tom Barabas has seen slices of life from many different areas that play a large part in informing his music. Originally born in the country of Hungary, the young Barabas encountered many different musical types in Eastern Europe, ranging from the gypsy sounds from travelling nomads to the classical performances by the famous local symphony orchestra. After his family moved to the United States, Tom Barabas chose Venezuela as his next stop, with plans to study at the Caracas University. The plan worked and he emerged from the institution with a classical music education and a full working knowledge of the piano and keyboards.
When Tom Barabas came back to the United States, it was not classical music that caught his ear, but other forms entirely. In addition to the jazz and rock sounds that made up the main musical landscape in his adopted city of San Diego, Barabas also latched on to the burgeoning New Age movement and the music that served as the soundtrack for the new connection with natural inspiration. In 1987, Barabas released his debut album with the name of You Are The End Of The Rainbow. While the album made a splash in the New Age music community, Barabas would get much more recognition when he would release Sedona Suite five years later.
Moving out of the southwest gave a new dimension to the music of Tom Barabas, but he has since made musical experiments that follow the themes of the desert and of southern California. Albums like Journey Back To Sedona navigate familiar territory and have been popular choices. In modern years, Barabas has bounced between New Age music and classical music with the 2000 album Classical Healing and Goodnight My Angel which was released the following year. A common theme in the work of Barabas is the use of piano and keyboards, which appear on nearly every album.
